The majestic Nguni cow of Southern Africa are as hardy as they are handsome.
Beloved herds of the Xhosa, Zulu and Swazi people for hundreds of years, these richly patterned cattle are a form of dowry as well as a source of food and clothing.
They have also inspired songwriters, poets, artists and even tribal kings, King Shaka of the Zulus had a royal herd of pure white Nguni cattle.
South Africa’s art and craft community continues to honour these beautiful creatures through modern day representations in a variety of mediums such as sculpture, wire art and original artwork.
